Gilles de Wildt

Birmingham and Solihull Public Governor

Gilles is a part-time Birmingham GP and global health academic. He was elected with a candidate statement on improving mental health care, particularly for children and adolescents. He is passionate about achieving “parity of esteem” between physical and mental health care and a member of a Birmingham Solihull health professional group on mental health.

He made Birmingham his home a quarter century ago, following his spouse. Their 3 children were born at BWH. Before, he worked in Southern African countries and the Netherlands in hospitals and public health. Gilles is an admirer of the Children’s Hospital/Malawi cooperation and the frontline NHS response to COVID-19. His GP and academic work focusses on health inequalities and he is a keen supporter of Birmingham becoming more pedestrian and cyclist-friendly with better public transport. Gilles is happy to receive suggestions from members of the community regarding the work of the trust.
